Ramos,Shayenne Elizianne; Carvalho,Aline Ferreira Souza de; Castro,Tássia Flávia Dias; Vasconcelos,Ana Carina Nogueira; Veras,Galileu Crovatto; Mourão Júnior,Carlos Alberto; Murgas,Luis David Solis.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to determine the effect of photoperiod on the cannibalism, growth, and body composition of giant trahira (Hoplias intermedius) juveniles. A completely randomized design was employed, with four photoperiods - 0L:24D, 6L:18D, 12L:12D, and 18L:6D, hours of light (L): dark (D) - and four replicates, for a period of 90 days. The analyzed parameters were: cannibalism, growth in weight and length, food consumption, feed conversion, protein efficiency rate, muscle growth, and body composition (moisture, lipid, ash, and crude protein). Fish from the 12L:12D photoperiod showed the highest survival rate and no cannibalism, as well as a great uniformity for length and mass values at the end of the experiment. The best...

Veras,Galileu Crovatto; Murgas,Luis David Solis; Rosa,Priscila Vieira; Zangeronimo,Márcio Gilberto; Ferreira,Matheus Soares da Silva; Leon,Jonathan Antonio Solis-De.
The objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of photoperiod on locomotor activity, growth and gonadal development in Nile tilapia (Oreochromis niloticus) fingerlings. A completely randomised design was used, with five treatments (0L:24D, 6L:18D, 12L:12D, 18L:6D and 24L:0D) and four replicates, with the aquarium as the experimental unit. One hundred and sixty fingerlings of tilapia weighing 3.21±0.05 g and measuring 4.35±0.07 cm each were distributed among 20 aquaria of 20 L in a recirculation system with the temperature controlled to 27 °C, with eight fish per aquarium. Feeding was carried out twice daily for 75 days, with extruded feed containing 40% crude protein. The fingerlings subjected to a photoperiod of 12L:12D as well as those under...

Growth performance and body composition of giant trahira fingerlings fed diets with different protein and energy levels PAB
Veras,Galileu Crovatto; Salaro,Ana Lucia; Zuanon,Jener Alexandre Sampaio; Carneiro,Antonio Policarpo Souza; Campelo,Daniel Abreu Vasconcelo; Murgas,Luis David Solis.
The objective of this work was to determine the proper levels of protein and energy in diets of Hoplias lacerdae fingerlings. The dietary crude protein (CP) and gross energy (GE) levels for fingerlings of giant trahira were evaluated in a completely randomized 4x3 factorial design with 35, 39, 43 and 47% CP and 4,100, 4,300 and 4,500 kcal kg-1 of GE, and four replicates. The survival rate was 99.22%, and a linear improvement on the performance parameters was detected after increasing diet crude protein levels. Feed conversion ratio decreased with increasing levels of dietary protein and energy in the diets. A significant interaction between crude protein and gross energy was observed over body protein and mineral matter. Body lipid has increased linearly...

Influence of photoperiod on growth, uniformity, and survival of larvae of the Amazonian ornamental Heros severus (Heckel, 1840) R. Bras. Zootec.
Veras,Galileu Crovatto; Paixão,Daércio José de Macedo Ribeiro; Brabo,Marcos Ferreira; Soares,Lourdes Marília Oliveira; Sales,Abner Dias.
ABSTRACT The objective of this work was to evaluate the influence of photoperiod on growth, uniformity, and survival of larvae of the Amazonian ornamental fish severum (Heros severus). A completely randomized study was used with five treatments (0L:24D, 6L:18D, 12L:12D, 18L:6D, 24L:0D) and four replicates, with the aquaria as the experimental unit. Two hundred severum larvae (3.20±0.16 mg and 5.60±0.00 mm) were distributed into 20 aquariums of one litre at a density of 10 larvae per litre. For a period of 15 days, feed was supplied four times daily with Artemia nauplii in a proportion of 160 nauplii/larvae/feeding. At the end of the experimental period, growth, uniformity, and survival data were subjected to analyses of variance and significance....

Optimal feeding frequency for Heros severus (Heckel, 1840), an Amazon ornamental fish R. Bras. Zootec.
Paixão,Daércio José de Macedo Ribeiro; Brabo,Marcos Ferreira; Soares,Lourdes Marília Oliveira; Campelo,Daniel Abreu Vasconcelos; Veras,Galileu Crovatto.
ABSTRACT The influence of feeding frequency on growth performance, batch uniformity, and survival rate of severum (Heros severus) larvae and juveniles was investigated in two experiments. In the first, 200 five-day-old severum larvae with 3.20±0.31 mg and 6.20±0.39 mm were randomly distributed into 20 aquaria (1 L) and fed 500 Artemia nauplii larvae−1 day−1 for 15 days. In the second, 120 severum juveniles, 178.19±33.59 mg and 1.82±0.09 cm, were randomly distributed into 15 aquaria (300 L) and hand-fed a commercial diet (400.0 g kg−1 crude protein and 21.2 kJ g−1 gross energy) until apparent satiety for 30 days. For both experiments, feeding frequencies of one, two, three, four, and five meals day−1 were evaluated. We used four replicates for the first...

Performance, body composition, and physiological response of tambaqui fed diet with green tea extract PAB
Corrêa,Carline Barroso; Veras,Galileu Crovatto; Silva,Giselle Paula Silva da; Brabo,Marcos Ferreira; Silva,Evaldo Martins.
Abstract: The objective of this work was to evaluate the performance, body composition, and physiological state of tambaqui (Colossoma macropomum) fingerlings fed diets containing different levels of green tea (Camellia sinensis) extract (GTE). A completely randomized design was used with five treatments, different levels of GTE (0.00, 0.05, 0.30, 0.55, and 0.80 g kg-1) and three replicates. The diets were offered to fingerlings twice a day, for 90 days. The increase of dietary GTE levels promoted a positive quadratic effect on body lipids, hepatic lipids, retention of body lipids, glucose, and total triglycerides, and the minimum values of these variables were estimated with 0.61, 0.54, 0.73, 0.60, and 0.30g kg-1 GTE in the diet, respectively. There was a...

Tolerância aguda e crônica de adultos de beta, Betta splendens, à salinidade da água R. Bras. Zootec.
Zuanon,Jener Alexandre Sampaio; Salaro,Ana Lúcia; Veras,Galileu Crovatto; Tavares,Mateus Moraes; Chaves,William.
